ExamsTrinity College Piano Exams in Thailand — Everything You Need to Know
Trinity College London runs piano exams in Thailand every year. This post explains the exam structure from Initial to Grade 8, how to register, and how to prepare.

What is Trinity College London piano?
Trinity College London is a UK-based international exam board, recognised alongside ABRSM. The qualifications — Certificate of Achievement at lower grades, Grade Certificates at higher levels — are internationally recognised and accepted by music conservatories worldwide. For students in Thailand, Trinity is one of the two most widely chosen exam routes.
Trinity piano exam structure
Trinity piano runs from Initial through Grades 1–8 and then Diplomas. For Grades 1–8, candidates perform three exam pieces, complete technical work (scales and a set exercise), and choose one supporting test from sight-reading, aural, or improvisation. The freedom to choose your supporting test is what makes Trinity distinctly different from ABRSM.
Trinity vs ABRSM — which should you choose?
Both are equally recognised. The key difference: Trinity lets you choose your supporting test to match your strengths; ABRSM prescribes every component. Many of Kru Pont's students choose Trinity for this flexibility — especially students with a strong ear but slower notation reading, who can choose aural as their supporting test and score better for it.
Where can you sit Trinity piano exams in Thailand?
Trinity runs exam sessions in Bangkok and the greater metropolitan area, including some provincial centres, typically in May–June and October–November. Registration is through Trinity-authorised centres in Thailand; your teacher can usually assist if they're registered with Trinity and can recommend the nearest exam venue.
Preparing for Trinity with Kru Pont
The Grade Up Piano course at A Pianist Piano is structured directly around the Trinity syllabus. Kru Pont prepares exam pieces, technical work, and whichever supporting test best matches each student, with a mock exam before the real sitting. The mock exam simulates real exam conditions — including the examiner introduction and time management within the exam room.
How long does preparation take?
It depends on your starting level and how consistently you practice. Initial to Grade 1 for a complete beginner might take 6–12 months. Grade 3 and above can require 1–2 years per level. Kru Pont will assess your current level and suggest a realistic timeline in the first lesson. The goal of graded exams is to measure progress, not to create pressure.
What do you get after passing?
Trinity results come in three tiers: Pass, Merit, and Distinction. Every level receives a certificate from Trinity College London bearing the internationally recognised seal. For children, this certificate adds to a portfolio for school or university applications. For adults, it's tangible proof of progress to be genuinely proud of.
How much does the Trinity exam entry fee cost?
Exam entry fees are separate from lesson fees and typically range from ฿2,000–4,000 depending on grade level and exam venue (prices may vary by year). Kru Pont will confirm the current fee when the registration window opens and will handle the entire registration process.
